The Hard Truth About Marriage

I’ve been married 18 years.

Here’s the thing, it’s not easy. It’s not a fairytale, in fact, I don’t think fairytale marriages exist.

Don’t compare your marriage or relationship to photos on social media. There’s no perfect couple. And the more one shouts about how perfect they are, the more perfection they portray in the curated feed, it’s a pretty good indicator those relationships might be in the most trouble.

A marriage that lasts as long as we have has ups and downs and takes WORK.

Sure we are smiling in this picture, truly happy. But that’s not every second of every day, so don’t let the curated world of social media fool you.

I’m grateful to have a guy willing to step up and do the work when we need it.

And if yours needs a bit of work, a tune-up like I call it, give yourself that gift to build your relationship up. Buy a book, call a counselor, book a marriage retreat but don’t sit back and do nothing and expect a new result.

Change takes ACTION. We all deserve to have a partner willing to take their part to make a change. If you don’t have that? You just might need to save yourself.

This isn’t a dress rehearsal friends. We get one shot. Let’s do all we can to make it AMAZING, to learn and to grow, but most of all to be honest.
